法兰·仙纳杜拉最先在1939年2月4日在新泽西州迎娶识于微时的南希·巴白图，两人共有三名儿女，分别是南希·仙纳杜拉（1940年6月8日—）、小法兰·仙纳杜拉（1944年1月10日—）和蒂娜·仙纳杜拉（1948年6月20日—）。虽然法兰·仙纳杜拉对他的妻子不忠，但整体上他还是一位对子女尽责的父亲。在1950年，仙纳杜拉与女星阿娃·嘉娜之恋情公开，他遂和南希·巴白图在同年分居，并在1951年10月29日正式离婚。两人离婚以后，仍然保持了一定的联络。

　　仙纳杜拉在离婚10日后，便在1951年11月7日和阿娃·嘉娜结婚。但由于婚姻的不愉快与及在事业遇上挫折，两人未几却在1953年10月27日分居，并在1957年正式离婚。仙纳杜拉曾考虑与罗兰·比歌（Lauren Bacall，她的丈夫堪富利·保加在1957年逝世）结婚，但两人恋情被揭发后便打消了念头。

　　The album consists of a haunting collection of melancholic ballads about sadness and loss . At the time of the recording, Sinatra's divorce from Ava Gardner had been finalised, and the arranger of the album, Nelson Riddle, had recently suffered the deaths of his mother and daughter.Of these events Riddle remarked "If I can attach events like that to music...perhaps Only the Lonely was the result."
