Another of seemingly endless John Lee Hooker budget collections of his earliest work, Boom Boom does not take a thematic approach, nor does it present the recordings in particularly high fidelity. There are a couple of rare performances, but there's really no need for tracks like "Boom Boom" and "Hobo Blues" to be on another Hooker compilation. It's certainly cheap, but with the absence of liner notes or where these performances were taken from, it amounts to a rather shoddy treatment of recordings that deserve much better.
